Washington County is made up of

Exeter,
Hopkinton,
Narragansett,
New Shoreham (Block Island),
North Kingstown,
Richmond,
South Kingstown, and
Westerly.
History:
Washington County was originally called Kings County before the Revolutionary War. Parts of Washington County are sometimes referred to as South County and on some maps Washington County is labeled South County.
Government:
County government in Rhode Island is extremely limited. Most of the government authority
either resides with the State of Rhode Island or the various cities and towns.
